About
SALS is a social effort that aims to increase appreciation for Indian regional stories and voices, particularly its traditional narrative forms and translated works, in order to enhance regional and indigenous representation in literature. The project attempts to draw attention to the distinctive style to story-telling and contextualize literary works with the history of the particular region, including Bengal and Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Sindh, and New Delhi.
By interacting with indigenous traditions of storytelling and literary creativity, SALS encourages students at the Wellington School to interact with Indian literary narratives and translations in meaningful ways, thus bringing about the introduction of the pupils to South Asian styles of writing, and increasing their participation in its enriched history. The initiative encourages students and readers to understand great literary works of South Asian origin better by bringing forth their cultural and historical contexts, as well as their importance in the present.
